How to Book
We run this job out of Jackson, about 18 miles from Alamo, so we schedule roller calls around the rest of the day's route rather than promising a same-hour arrival. Tell us the door's size and whether it's sticking, grinding, or jumping track when you call - that alone tells us a lot about which rollers you've got and whether this is a quick swap or something tangled up with the track alignment too. Most Alamo homes we've looked at run the same original steel doors that went up when the area built out, so we're usually not guessing at what we'll find before we load the truck. If you're not sure this is a roller problem versus a spring or opener problem, say so - we'd rather ask two extra questions on the phone than show up with the wrong parts. See our Alamo page for the rest of what we cover out here, or check the Jackson roller page if you're closer to town.
Can You Do This Yourself
A single roller on a cheap residential door is within reach for someone comfortable with a ratchet and a release lever - unplug the opener, release tension carefully, and the bottom rollers can come out one at a time without the door dropping on you. The catch on a lot of these older Alamo doors is the hinges. After five decades the hinge holes wear oval instead of round, and a new roller stem in a worn hinge just repeats the same grinding noise in six months. Top rollers near the spring system are not a do-it-yourself job - that's where people get hurt. If you're doing one roller on a light door with sound hinges, go for it. If you're doing all of them, or the door is a heavier double, or you're not sure the hinges are still round, that's a call for us.
Parts We Carry
We stock standard 2-inch steel rollers and sealed nylon rollers on the truck, which covers the great majority of doors from Alamo's building era - most of what's out there is a 7-foot or 8-foot door on a standard track radius, nothing exotic. What we don't carry on the truck is anything for a non-standard track radius or an odd stem length, which does turn up occasionally on doors that have been modified or repaired piecemeal over fifty years. If your door falls into that category, we'll tell you on the first visit rather than force a part that's close but not right, and we'll order the correct one rather than improvise.
What the Repair Takes
A straight roller swap on a door with sound hinges and track is a short job - open the door, release tension, pull and replace the rollers, run the door through a full cycle to check for binding. Where it runs long is the hinge and track inspection that a door built around 1971 usually needs anyway, since replacing a roller in a worn hinge hole just buys you a few months before the same symptom comes back. We check that before we close out the job, not after a callback. We're coming from Jackson, 18 miles out, so we bundle the roller work with whatever else the door needs rather than making two trips for two separate faults.
